Blount County shows their VOLUNTEER Spirit for Blount County’s Great American CleanUp
Blount County’s Great American CleanUp and Volunteer Luncheon was a huge success! 450 volunteers picked up over 2.5 tons of litter, April 9. “Blount County truly showed their volunteer spirit in 2011! We are so excited about the turn out this year!” Charlene DeSha, Coordinator, Keep Blount Beautiful.
Keep Blount Beautiful offered five check-in locations this year top including Townsend, Rockford, Louisville, Friendsville and the main Maryville location. Residents enjoyed being able to just walk or drive down the street in their communities and clean up, this saved them time and money, plus they were able to show pride in their communities!
Morning projects included storm drain marking and river/roadside/park/parking lot clean up. Volunteers were encouraged to clean up anywhere and everywhere within Blount County. A few residents even opted to clean up their neighborhoods or area they drive by every day and see litter.
After the cleanup, over 300 volunteers gathered at New Providence Presbyterian church for lunch and music by Pistol Creek Catch of the Day to celebrate Blount County being clean and green. All volunteers received a free hot dog or hamburger dinner along with chips and drinks cooked by the Blount County Sheriff’s Department. Food was donated by U.S. Foodservice and drinks were donated by Pepsi Bottling of Knoxville. Pepsi is a proud sponsor of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Clean Up.
Thank you to our satellite location site leaders, Donielle Stone, Kay Swicegood, Tom Eustis & Jason Andrews. 168 volunteers were recruited with their help!
