About Us:

Keep Blount Beautiful is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, environmental organization that has been in existence for eleven years.  Its mission is to enhance the natural beauty of Blount County, and to promote, through education, responsible management of community waste.  It is governed by a board of 13 members.  Daily operations are overseen by a Coordinator.

KBB is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and follows the KAB system.  KAB is a 501 (c) (3) national environmental, non-profit that has been in existence for fifty years.  It gained national recognition with its “Crying Indian” public service announcement in the 1970’s.  This system is a behavioral approach to dealing with litter where prevention is more powerful than pickup.  Under the KAB system, there are three target areas: litter prevention, minimization of the impact of community waste and community enhancement and beautification.  The message of KAB is aimed at three target populations: government, business and community.

KBB fulfills the KAB mission by implementing various programs in Blount County.  Some examples are local river cleanups, highway litter pickups, educational programs in schools, guided fieldtrips to the landfill, seasonal recycling events and business beautification awards.  Daily operations are funded by grants from the Blount County Solid Waste Authority and the Blount County Sheriff’s Department through the Litter Grant Program.
